It is located in the vertebral canal of vertebral column and 45 cm long. It extends from upper level of atlas its first lumber vertebral of vertebral column. Spinal cord is also made up of grey mater & white mater. Its outer covering is also called meninges. As it covers the brain & spinal cord too.

Functions:-

(1)   It conducts sensory & motor impulse to & from brain through sensory ascending traits and motor descending traits.

(2)   It reduces brain work as it act as a centre for spinal reflexes.
